OSP and Other Penn State Training
Penn State has several vehicles for learning about pursuing and administering external funding. The Administrative Council of Researchers (ACOR) is the community of staff working within the systems that support the external funding machine at Penn State. The group, open to any interested staff, meets approximately every other month for information sharing and informal training.
ACOR also sponsors an annual retreat and a calendar of workshops for more specialized training events. In addition, they offer a library of videos of previous national training sessions. For the membership list, a schedule of programs, and inventory of training videos from the National Council of University Research Administrators, please visit the OSP Web site. You can be confident of any of the information in these sessions, but we especially recommend the Budget Building I and II sessions.
External Training
There are a variety of organizations that offer training for grant writing and other skills. The Foundation Center offers a variety of programs. Agencies often offer general workshops and question-answer sessions for specific Requests for Proposals. These can be incredibly helpful.
